Srinagar, Jan 2: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah Friday expressed sorrow over the devastating fire that broke out in Dachhan area in Kishtwar late Thursday night.
The catastrophic blaze has destroyed at least 20 residential houses, leaving numerous families without shelter, and causing widespread devastation, as per a party press release.
Dr Farooq expressed anguish over the tragedy and expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the affected families. He called for immediate measures to provide relief and support to those who have lost their homes and belongings in the fire.
“It is heart-wrenching to witness such devastation, particularly in a region already facing challenges due to difficult terrain and inadequate infrastructure,” Dr. Farooq said adding, “This tragic incident has left dozens of families in a state of despair, and it is imperative that the government acts swiftly to provide them with all necessary relief and rehabilitation.” Dr Farooq also commended the efforts of local volunteers, civil administration and police who came together to help battle the fire despite the challenging circumstances.
In response to the unfolding crisis, Member of Parliament Sajad Kichloo immediately contacted the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to inform him about the situation. Kichloo conveyed his concerns regarding the lack of timely fire services and the devastating impact on the residents. In the conversation, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured Kichloo that the government is fully aware of the gravity of the situation and will ensure that all relief measures, including compensation and rehabilitation, are provided to the affected families at the earliest. Among others Party’s Addl GS Ajay Sadhotra, PP Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta and Senior leader Khalid Najeeb Suharwardhy expressed solidarity with the victims of the fire in Tachna village and calls upon the government to take all necessary steps to assist them in their time of need.
