Srinagar, Jan 1: JK Police XI clinched the 19th Christmas Gold Cup title after edging past JK Bank FC in a tense penalty shootout following a 2–2 draw at the end of regulation time in the final.

As per a statement issued by DFA on Thursday, both teams displayed exceptional skill, discipline, and fighting spirit throughout the match, making the final a true spectacle for football lovers. However, JK Police XI showed remarkable composure under pressure during penalties to emerge as deserving champions.

This victory marks a great achievement for JK Police football, reflecting their hard work, commitment, and consistent performance. The triumph also highlights the growing standard and competitiveness of football in Jammu & Kashmir.

“DFA Srinagar congratulates JK Police XI, the coaching staff, and management on this outstanding success and wishes them continued success in future tournaments,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, in a separate official statement issued by the J&K Police, Anand Jain, IPS, Additional Director General (ADG) of Armed Police, congratulated the J&K Police team, coaches, and support staff, praising their remarkable discipline, spirit, and determination.

The statement said that in a captivating football showdown, Jammu & Kashmir Police emerged victorious in a hard-fought match against J&K Bank, clinching a 4-3 win in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw at the end of regular time.

The statement read that from the outset, J&K Police asserted their dominance with a high-energy performance, displaying discipline and control throughout the game. The team’s fast-paced play, coupled with strategic guidance from the coaches, kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.

“In the 55th minute, Faisal Rasheed found the back of the net, followed by a powerful strike from Hayat Bashir in the 67th minute, giving J&K Police a 2-1 advantage. However, J&K Bank made a late push to equalise, sending the match into extra time at 2-2,” the statement added.
