Ganderbal, Dec 29: The Srinagar-Leh National Highway was temporarily closed for vehicular movement on Monday due to slippery road conditions after fresh snowfall at Zojila Pass, officials said.

An official said that the road has been closed, keeping in view the slippery conditions.

He said after improvement in weather and road conditions, the traffic movement would be restored.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Monday issued a weather forecast and advisory for Ladakh, warning of snowfall and possible disruption to transportation in the coming days on the Zojila axis.

According to the forecast, December 30 is expected to remain cloudy for most parts of the day, with light snowfall likely from the afternoon or evening onwards over the Zojila-Drass axis and the Siachen area.

On December 31 and January 1, weather conditions are expected to turn cold and cloudy, with light to moderate snowfall forecast at most places across the Zojila, Kargil, and Zanskar regions and over the higher reaches of Leh district.

Officials said snowfall of up to 10 inches is possible at Zojila during this period.

The MeT has issued a specific warning for December 31, stating that heavy snowfall is expected on the Zojila Drass axis.

In an advisory, authorities cautioned that there is a high risk of temporary disruption of transportation over the Zojila and adjoining routes from December 31 to January 1.

Travellers and locals have been advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and plan their movements accordingly to ensure safety and avoid inconvenience.
