Srinagar, Jun 6: Rush in markets in the summer capital picked up a day ahead of Eid-ul-Adha with several areas witnessing traffic jams.
The city’s commercial hubs gradually witnessed heavy footfall as families gear up for the grand festival of Eid, with traders expecting good sales in the remaining few days till Eid.
Like every year, the people are shopping for clothes, footwear, decorative items, and sweets. Popular marketplaces like Goni Khan, Nowhatta, Maharaj Gunj, Hazratbal, Lal-Chowk, and other parts of Srinagar are packed with enthusiastic shoppers.
“On Eid, we want to dress best and feed our families best dishes. I have come with my family for shopping here and so far the atmosphere looks lively,” said Suhail Ahmad, a shopper at Goni Khan market.
Apart from apparel and accessories, bakeries across Srinagar are witnessing a huge rush as people queue up to buy traditional Kashmiri delicacies to serve guests on Eid. Renowned bakeries in Kashmir are catering to huge crowds, while offering favourites such as kulchas, sheermal, baqerkhani, and cream rolls, Cakes , and much more to the buyers.
Meanwhile, home bakers too are witnessing a spike in online orders for cakes, Eid-themed pastries, cookies, and dessert boxes. Rayees Ahmad, founder of Tiffin Aaw , a cloud kitchen, said that he is expecting a good flow of orders post Eid as well.
“People can place an order to make special dishes out of Qurbani meat. We are also receiving orders for other dishes from our customers. Our venture gives and option of healthy hygienic food, and we are hoping that people will opt for that,” Rayees said.
