New Delhi, Jan 1: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said weapon systems developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) played a decisive role during Operation Sindoor, highlighting the organisation’s professionalism and commitment to safeguarding national interests. Addressing scientists during his visit to DRDO Headquarters on its 68th Foundation Day, Rajnath Singh commended the organisation for strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities and equipping the armed forces with state-of-the-art technologies. He said DRDO-developed systems functioned seamlessly during the operation, boosting the morale of soldiers.
The Defence Minister expressed confidence that DRDO would play a key role in creating the ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ initiative announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day 2025 address. Under the initiative, DRDO will equip vital installations with air defence systems to ensure comprehensive aerial protection over the next decade, he said, highlighting the importance of air defence in modern warfare. Rajnath Singh also praised DRDO’s growing collaboration with industry, academia and start-ups, saying it had helped build a strong and synergised defence ecosystem. He urged the organisation to stay aligned with rapidly evolving technologies, focus on innovation and deepen private sector participation, particularly in deep tech and next-generation systems.
