Srinagar, Dec 29: The recent incidents involving harassment and attacks on Kashmiri citizens in Himachal Pradesh and other parts of the country have once again exposed a disturbing undercurrent that runs counter to India’s constitutional ethos. These episodes are not isolated law-and-order issues, they represent a systemic attitude problem that demands urgent course correction.

The All-India Professionals’ Congress (AIPC), Jammu and Kashmir Chapter, has strongly condemned these acts, terming them deeply unfortunate and reflective of a growing intolerance towards people from Kashmir. The organisation warned that such behaviour undermines national unity and damages India’s long-standing narrative of pluralism and coexistence.

In a sharply worded statement, Sanjay Sapru, State Head of the AlPC Jammu and Kashmir Chapter, said: “These incidents are extremely unfortunate and painful. Kashmiris are citizens of India, and any hostility towards them simply because of their identity is unacceptable. This attitude towards people of Kashmir goes against the very spirit of our Constitution and the idea of India.”

Sapru stressed that students, professionals, traders, and workers from Jammu and Kashmir have historically integrated into societies across the country, contributing productively to local economies and institutions. Targeting them, he said, reflects not strength but a breakdown in civic values and administrative vigilance.

The AIPC Jammu and Kashmir Chapter has called upon state administrations and particularly Union Government to take firm and visible action to ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiris residing outside the Union Territory. It also urged political leadership across party lines to send a clear, unambiguous message that discrimination and vigilantism will not be tolerated.
