Srinagar, Jan 01: Kashmir Valley witnessed a spate of fire incidents over the past 24 hours, with at least 14 separate cases reported across multiple districts, affecting residential houses, commercial establishments, religious structures, haystacks and trees, officials said on Thursday.
Fire and Emergency Services responded to incidents reported from Srinagar, Sopore, Kupwara, Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Bandipora districts, successfully controlling the blazes and preventing further damage.
In north Kashmir’s Sopore area, a single-storey shopping line comprising seven shops was damaged by fire at Kongrusa, Rafiabad, while three shops were gutted in the main market of Dangiwacha. Haystacks were also involved in separate incidents at Kunzer, Wanigam and Peernia, where a single-storey structure of the Jhelum Hydro Project caught fire.
In Srinagar’s Shivpora Bund area and Adlash in Seergufwara, Anantnag, Chinar trees were damaged due to fire. Kupwara district reported multiple incidents, including a double-storey residential house at Lastiyal, Kalaroos, a single-storey residential house at Arambagh, Payerpora, and two wooden sheds at Washipora, Handwara.
In south Kashmir, a double-storey Jamia Ahli Hadees mosque was involved in a fire incident at Nayi Basti, Anantnag, while two haystacks were damaged at Kathnarg–Deknarg in Kulgam. In Pulwama’s Zakhram area of Keller, a double-storeyed cowshed was affected by fire. Another haystack was damaged in Madain Mohalla, Bandipora.
Officials said Fire and Emergency Services personnel acted swiftly in all cases, bringing the fires under control in time and averting major losses. No loss of life was reported in any of the incidents, they added. (KNC)
