J&K Govt denies land allocation for Gund Nowgam sports stadium

CS led panel to examine issues

Jammu, Mar 18: The Jammu and Kashmir government clarified on Tuesday that there was no proposal under consideration for constructing a sports stadium at Gund Nowgam in Bandipora district.

However, there were previous reports that suggested that 50 Kanals of land had been earmarked for the project.

In response to a question tabled by National Conference leader Hilal Akbar Lone in J&K’s Legislative Assembly during the ongoing budget session, the government stated that 200 kanals of land had been transferred to the Industries & Commerce Department.

The minister in charge, however, said that only 175 Kanals were taken over so far, while the remaining 25 Kanals were under an irrigation canal and a school, which were yet to be acquired.

Lone further asked whether it was also a fact that out of said land, 50 kanals were reserved for the construction of a sports stadium. The government responded that “no such proposal is under consideration.”
