Srinagar, Dec 23: While Police in Srinagar carried out massive anti-sabotage operations, security forces on Tuesday carried out extensive search and security operations in South Kashmir forests as part of heightened preventive measures to maintain law and order and counter any potential security threats.

In Anantnag district, a massive joint search operation was launched in the forest areas of Mattan, Sonachbrah, and Sandose. The operation was conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, 3 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Officials said the joint teams carried out systematic combing of dense forest areas as part of area domination and intelligence-based operations. The searches were aimed at ensuring that no anti-national elements were hiding in these areas.

“A coordinated search operation was launched based on security assessments. The forests were thoroughly combed to rule out the presence of any suspicious elements,” a senior police officer said, adding that the operation was conducted in a highly professional manner with due precautions.

In Srinagar, police, in close coordination with the CRPF, conducted Area Security and Anti-Sabotage (AST) operations around major vital installations and sensitive locations in the North Zone of the city, besides a search operation in Lal Chowk.

According to Srinagar Police, the joint exercise was aimed at strengthening the preventive security grid, enhancing operational preparedness, and ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure and the general public.

“These AST operations are part of our proactive security strategy. The objective is to deter any potential threats, review existing security arrangements, and ensure that vital installations remain secure,” Police said.

During the operation, security personnel carried out thorough checking and sanitisation of identified areas. The teams also reviewed deployment patterns, access control points, and emergency response mechanisms.

A senior CRPF officer said that close coordination between the police and central forces was key to maintaining a strong security posture. “Such joint drills enhance coordination, response time, and preparedness on the ground,” the officer noted.

Police officials said similar joint security exercises would continue to be conducted periodically across Srinagar and other districts as part of sustained efforts to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents.

“Srinagar Police remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors alike. Public cooperation is vital in maintaining peace, and we urge citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately,” the spokesperson added.

Security agencies said the overall situation remains under control, and operations are being conducted purely as precautionary and preventive measures to reinforce public confidence and ensure stability across the region.
