Srinagar, Dec 30: Members of various cricket clubs affiliated with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) on Tuesday addressed the media in Srinagar to welcome the initiation of the long-pending election process of the association, scheduled for January 16, 2026.

The club representatives, while addressing the media at JKCA headquarters in Srinagar, said the move, being carried out in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court, was a crucial step towards restoring transparency, democratic functioning and normalcy in JKCA, which has remained crippled for years due to prolonged ‘litigations and internal disputes’.

As per a press statement issued, club members said the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association is due to hold elections of its office bearers and apex council on 16 January 2026 as per the communication of JKCA bearing No: JKCA/MSC/MA/JMU/25-26/1416 dt:20-12-2025 at GGM Science College, Jammu.

The Supreme Court, in a case titled Youth Cricket Club & others vs JKCA & others, gave directions to JKCA to hold elections as per the Supreme Court-approved constitution. The Supreme Court appointed A.K. Jyoti, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, as Electoral Officer for the said elections.
