Kargil, Dec 21: PVR INOX Limited has marked its entry into Ladakh by opening a two-screen multiplex in Leh, making it the region’s first modern cinema facility and India’s highest multiplex at an altitude of around 11,500 feet, as the company expands into underpenetrated but high-potential markets beyond metropolitan cities.
The new property is located at Solar Colony in Saboo along the Leh–Manali Bypass Road.
“Leh just levelled up its movie experience! Introducing Leh’s first-ever multiplex – PVR, now open at Solar Colony, Leh Manali Bypass Road. Watch your favourite films at India’s highest multiplex, 11,500 ft above sea level” PVR said in a post.
“ Featuring 2 screens, 2K projection, Dolby 7.1 surround sound, next-gen 3D, and an extensive food menu that’s worth the hype” it said.
The launch is said to be a strategic expansion into high-potential but underpenetrated markets, as the cinema operator continues to move beyond major metropolitan areas. Developed under the Franchise Owned Company Operated model, the Leh property aligns with the company’s asset-light growth strategy while strengthening its national footprint.
Specially engineered audio systems have been deployed to maintain consistent sound quality at high altitude, ensuring a premium and immersive movie-viewing experience comparable to leading urban cinemas. In addition to entertainment, the property introduces Leh’s first organised food court, offering multiple national and international quick-service restaurant brands. The integrated leisure format is expected to enhance the overall visitor experience and position the multiplex as a key social and entertainment hub for both residents and tourists. The project is expected to contribute to local employment generation, support tourism-led economic activity, and strengthen Ladakh’s evolving urban ecosystem.
With this addition, PVR INOX operates a total of 1,774 screens across 356 properties in 112 cities spanning India and Sri Lanka.
