A young college student was feared drowned after she jumped into river Chenab at Pul Doda in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Reports said the girl jumped into the river from crowded Pul Doda, leaving the passersby in a shock.
The onlookers raised an alarm and shot pictures and videos of the girl for nearly three minutes, following which she disappeared in the icy cold waters of mighty Chenab.
The girl was identified as 20-year-old college student Rakshu Devi, daughter of Koshal Kumar, and a resident of village Rukali Doda. She was a student of government degree college Doda and was presently putting up in a rented room in Tondwa locality of Doda town.
“After getting the information, a police party from Police Station Doda immediately reached the spot. The police party along with Chenab rescuers and an SDRF team is on the job to retrieve the body of the girl,” said SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir.
“We have started inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC at Police Station Doda to ascertain the reason behind this step by the girl,” he said.Â
