Ramban, Dec 28: The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for two-way traffic on Sunday, officials said. Subject to fair weather and road conditions, light motor vehicles (LMVs), passenger vehicles, heavy passenger service vehicles (HPSVs), private cars and goods carriers will be allowed to ply from both sides of the highway on Monday.

Traffic authorities said that light, medium and heavy vehicles were permitted to move in both directions throughout Saturday as well. However, traffic movement remained slow at several locations due to single-lane stretches and vehicle breakdowns. Congestion was reported at Balinalla, Dewal, Nashri–Dalwas and along the Marog–Kishtwari Pather stretch. The situation was further compounded by the breakdown of two heavy vehicles on the highway, leading to temporary disruptions in traffic flow.

Authorities have advised commuters to check the latest traffic updates from Traffic Control Units (TCUs) at Srinagar, Ramban and Jammu, as well as the official social media platforms of the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police, before commencing their journey. Passengers have also been urged to prefer daytime travel and avoid night journeys, especially on vulnerable stretches of the highway. Officials cautioned that the movement of heavy vehicles between the Nashri and Navyug tunnels during night hours may cause inconvenience and delays.

Drivers were further advised to maintain lane discipline, warning that overtaking and wrong-lane driving could result in traffic jams and pose serious safety risks.
