Pulwama, Dec 31: The Special Court designated under the NIA Act in Pulwama has convicted three accused for providing support to terrorists linked with a banned organisation, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The conviction stems from FIR No. 151/2022 of Police Station Pulwama, registered under Section 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act, and Sections 16, 18, 19, 20, 38 and 39 of the UA(P) Act.

Following a detailed investigation and prosecution, the court held the accused guilty of offering shelter and logistical assistance to terrorists of a proscribed terror outfit, police said in a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

The court convicted Mehraj-ud-Din Mir under Sections 19 and 39 of UAPA, sentencing him to three years of simple imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 19, along with three years and 10 months imprisonment under Section 39, with both sentences ordered to run concurrently. The court further directed that the period already spent in custody shall be set off against the sentence.

The other two accused, Firdous Ahmad Bhat and Irshad Ahmad Malik, were convicted under Section 39 of UAPA and sentenced to three years and 10 months imprisonment each.

Pulwama Police said the conviction reflects a professional, evidence-driven investigation, supported by effective prosecution, reaffirming the force’s resolve to act firmly against terror support networks.

A police spokesperson stated that any support to banned terror organisations, direct or indirect, will be met with strict legal action, adding that the force remains committed to dismantling terror ecosystems and securing convictions through watertight evidence.
