Rajouri, Jan 5: All Daily Wagers Jammu and Kashmir Sangarsh Samiti on Monday organised a protest rally in Rajouri town, demanding implementation of the Minimum Wages Act in Jammu and Kashmir and regularisation of their services.

The rally witnessed participation of labourers and daily wagers from various government departments, who raised slogans seeking implementation of the Minimum Wages Act in Jammu and Kashmir.

The protesters also demanded that a bill for regularisation of all daily wagers be introduced and passed during the upcoming budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, scheduled to begin on February 2.

Addressing the gathering, representatives of the Sangarsh Samiti alleged that the genuine demands of daily wagers across departments have been ignored for decades by successive governments.

They said that thousands of workers continue to work under uncertain conditions, which, according to them, amounts to gross violation of human rights.

The protesters warned that if their demands were not addressed at the earliest, they would intensify their agitation.

They also announced a call for gherao of the Civil Secretariat in Jammu in the coming days to press for their demands.

The MLA directed the concerned health authorities to address staff shortages on a priority basis and take concrete steps to improve the functioning of healthcare institutions in the constituency, so that people could receive timely and quality medical care. He stated that matter pertaining to shortage of doctors has been taken up with the government multiple times with demand both to refer the vacancies to competent recruitment authority as well as to recruit doctors under NHM but nothing has been done so far.
